Project Overview

Stadtwerke Münster GmbH commissioned the ARC office to carry out an investigation. In the course of 2019, ARC investigated the bus station in front of Münster’s main railway station in several scenarios with the help of CAST software, which is also very suitable for this purpose.

This bus station is the central hub in the urban and regional bus system and, with around 2,000 bus departures per day, is one of the largest bus stations in Germany. However, it is already reaching its capacity limits due to its pronounced mixed traffic and overstrained traffic light systems on the access routes in real time. However, the city of Münster with its approx. 315,000 inhabitants and its public utilities are planning a significant expansion of regional and urban public transport in Münster. This will inevitably lead to a further increase in bus frequencies at Münster bus station.

Services provided

For the status quo and for the expansion scenario 2025 with 50% more bus departures with target timetable data and real-time data, ARC examined the actual vehicle flow of the various modes of transport and their respective time losses of the buses for a given infrastructure. Using the CAST software, video simulations were also generated, which show the traffic effects and bottlenecks of the infrastructure, even for political decision-makers.

” We are very satisfied with the trustful cooperation with the experts from ARC and the knowledge gained and are happy to recommend this expert within the transport industry for similar issues. ”
