Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

Definition of Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

Ground Support Equipment includes all vehicles and equipment used to service aircraft between landing and take-off, such as baggage tractors, passenger buses, catering trucks, and pushback tugs.

Trends in Sustainable GSE:

  • Electrification of vehicle fleets.
  • Integration with Smart Apron Management systems.
  • Use of autonomous GSE within Autonomous Airside Operations.

Benefits:

  • Reduced fuel and maintenance costs.
  • Lower greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions.
  • Improved operational efficiency and safety.

CAST Application

CAST allows airports to simulate their GSE operations under different fleet compositions, routing strategies, and levels of automation. Planners can forecast the effects of electrification, autonomous driving, and optimized scheduling on costs, emissions, and turnaround times – supporting both investment planning and operational decision-making.
